The train finally stopped at Devipuram station. Ananya jumped down, her heart bubbling with the pure joy of being home. Her father, Krishna Murthy, a gentle-faced man with a warm smile, was already waiting. He hugged her tightly, smelling of rice and the earth
Actually krishna murthy and suryakantham are ananya's parents they lives in raghurams house since there wedding cause krishna murthy parents were not alive he didn't want to separate his wife from her parents so they live along with raghurams family.
"My little one is finally home!" he exclaimed.
Radhika, whose house was right next to Ananya's, also got off and hugged her own waiting family. The two best friends exchanged excited reached there houses.
Ananya walked into her house, the familiar scents of incense and home-cooked food enveloping her. She saw him. Raghava Ramineni, her grandfather, sat in his usual armchair, engrossed in a Telugu newspaper. She tiptoed behind him, a mischievous grin on her face, and gently covered his eyes with her hands.
"Evaro cheppukondi choodham"(Guess who?) she whispered playfully.
Raghava's strong hands immediately covered hers. "Who? Did my little troublemaker finally decide to come home?"
"You forgot your girlfriend, did you?" she teased, pinching his ear playfully.
Raghava let out a hearty laugh, a sound that always filled the house with warmth. "Bangaru thalli! (My darling granddaughter!).Ananya hugged her , the entire family gathered around – her mother Suryakantham, her grandmother Sitadevi, her uncle Sudhakar, aunt Ramani, and her cousins Manu, Priya, and Deepa.
Ananya jumped up and hugged her Ammama. "Enti Ammma na boyfriend ki food pettatledha! (Haven't you fed him properly? He looks so thin!") she said with an exaggerated pout, patting her grandfather's cheek.
Her mother, Suryakantham, gently hit her on the head. "You haven't changed a bit, have you, Ananya?"
Ananya rubbed her head, pouting even more. "Look, Ammama! She's hitting me!"
Sitadevi stepped in, a soft smile on her face. "let her be, Surya. She's just come home." Everyone laughed, the house echoing with happy chatter. They asked her about her exams, about Mumbai, and told her to freshen up before dinner.
No one, not even her Ammama, thought to mention that her room wasn't her own anymore.
Meanwhile, that morning, Vikram had woken up early, the gentle sounds of the village a stark contrast to Mumbai's constant hum. His phone rang – it was Kavya.
"Morning, Pappu! How's Devipuram?" she asked, her voice still a bit sleepy.
"It's... interesting, Akka," Vikram replied, glancing around the traditional room. "I met Thathayya yesterday. Unexpectedly." He quickly recounted the incident with the smugglers and Raghava's insistence that he stay at the house. He made no mention of their shared bloodline.
Kavya gasped. "He invited you? That's... a miracle, Vikram! Be careful, though."
They talked for a few more minutes, Kavya warning him again to be cautious. After the call, Vikram decided to take a quick shower. He grabbed a towel and headed to the attached washroom, completely forgetting to lock the door behind him.
---
Ananya, oblivious to everything, felt the familiar pull of her own room. She walked down the corridor, humming a tune. This was her space, her sanctuary. She removed her duppata, tossing it onto her bed, and placed her luggage next to the wardrobe. The first thing she wanted to do was take a long, cool shower after the dusty train journey.
She walked towards the washroom door, her hand reaching for the knob. Just as her fingers brushed it, the door swung open.
Ananya, caught completely off guard, gasped. She tripped over her own feet, flailing her arms, and fell forward. Right into a very solid, very warm chest.
She blinked once, twice. Her face was pressed against damp, firm skin, a faint scent of soap and something distinctly masculine filling her nostrils. Her hands, instinctively, had gripped bare shoulders to steady herself.
She slowly lifted her head. Her eyes, still a bit blurry from the fall, met a pair of intense, dark ones.
Vikram.
He was standing there, a towel wrapped precariously low around his waist, water still glistening on his broad shoulders and chest. His hair was damp, and his eyes, usually so serious, were wide with shock – and a flicker of something she couldn't quite name.
Ananya's mind can't be pinched herself. Hard.
"Ow!" she yelped, a very real, sharp pain. It wasn't a dream.
She saw him, shirtless, only in a towel, standing so close that she could feel the heat radiating from him. The realization hit her like a thunderbolt: her hero, the DCP, in her room, coming out of her bathroom, barely clothed, with her practically in his arms.
A high-pitched squeak, a prelude to a full-blown scream, bubbled up in her throat. She opened her mouth to scream but a muffled scream came from her throat "ahhhmmmm.... "
Before she could utter a sound, Vikram reacted instantly. His hand shot out, firm but gentle, covering her mouth, pressing her gently against the door frame. His other arm went around her waist, steadying her completely. She could feel the hard muscle of his chest against her, the rapid thump of his heart, mirroring her own.
"Shhh! Don't shout!" he whispered urgently, his warm breath fanning her ear. His voice was a low, melodic rumble, much softer than she remembered. "Your family will come running... and then what will they think, seeing us like this?"
Ananya's eyes were wide, darting from his intense gaze to his hand over her mouth. Family. See us. Like words echoed in her mind, turning her face a furious shade of red. Her heart was pounding like a drum solo.
He slowly removed his hand from her mouth, but his arm still held her close, steadying her.
"What... what are you doing here?" she whispered, her voice barely a squeak, still feeling the warmth of his hand. "And why are you... like that?" Her gaze involuntarily dropped to the towel, making her blush even harder.
Vikram's lips quirked into a small, amused smile, a hint of genuine playfulness in his eyes. "Like what? In my room?"
"Your room?!" Ananya gasped, finally finding her voice. She pulled away from his embrace, spinning around immediately to present her back to him, her face burning. "Get dressed! Oh my god! What are you doing in my room?"
Vikram chuckled, a deep, rich sound that sent a shiver down her spine. "I could ask you the same thing, Ms. Ananya. Last I checked, you were in Mumbai."
She turned slightly, peeking over her shoulder, still not quite looking him in the eye. " This is my room! And you are... you are the DCP from Mumbai, right? The one who saved me from Vishal? What are you doing here, in Devipuram, in my house?"
"So, you do remember me," he teased softly, stepping a little closer.
"No! I don't know you!" she stuttered, her cheeks flaming even brighter. "I just... I saw you on the news! And Radhika told me your name! That's all!"
"Right," he said, his voice laced with amusement. "And the 'Superman' part? The kiss?"
"That was... that was the juice! It was spiked!" she spluttered, mortified. "It wasn't me! I was not in my senses!"
"Hmm. Very convenient," he murmured, taking another subtle step. "So, no 'handsome policeman' anymore?"
Ananya felt her entire body flush. "Anyway, I don't want any explanation from you! Just... just get dressed!" With that, she bolted out of the room, slamming the door behind her with a thud. Her heart was still racing, her mind a complete, adorable mess.
She ran straight to the kitchen where Sitadevi was preparing food, her hands still slightly trembling. "Ammama! Who is that guy in my room?" she whispered, her voice still shaky.
Sitadevi looked up, a gentle smile on her face. "Oh, you met Vikram, dear? He's our guest. The new DCP I told you about. Your Thathayya insisted he stay here for a few days after he saved him from some troublemakers yesterday."
Ananya stared, processing this new information. Vikram. The DCP. Her hero. Staying here. As a guest.
"But... Ammama... why did you give my room?" she asked, a faint blush returning to her cheeks. She still remembered the feel of his bare chest against her.
Sitadevi turned, "Well, your room is the last one on the floor, isn't it? It's the most private. I thought it would be the best room for him, being a police officer. He will have many duties and needs his privacy. Don't worry, child, we put your things in the guest room for now."
Ananya just nodded, still is feeling something in her heart but she don't want to admit it.
Vikram had just finished his shower and was in the process of buttoning up his crisp khaki uniform shirt when there was a soft knock on the door. "Come in," he called out, a hint of a smile already playing on his lips. He knew exactly who it was.
The door creaked open, and Ananya slowly, hesitantly, peered in. Her eyes widened slightly when she saw him mostly dressed, but still drying his hair with a small towel. She tried to act normal.
"My... my luggage," she mumbled, pointing towards the corner where her bags were still sitting. "I came to get it."
Vikram leaned against the doorframe, a smirk tugging at his lips. He liked seeing her flustered. "Oh, yes. Take it. Wouldn't want you to be without your precious belongings." He watched as she hurd to grab her bags, her movements quick and a little clumsy.
As she gathered her things, avoiding his gaze, Vikram straightened up. "You know," he began, his voice dropping to a low, suggestive tone, "I could offer to share this room with you."
Ananya froze, her hands on her bag. She slowly turned, facing him, her arms folding across her chest defensively. She gave him a tight, almost forced smile. "No thanks," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "This isn't Mumbai, Mr. DCP. Here, girls and boys don't 'share' rooms. Especially not if they're... strangers."
Vikram's smirk deepened. He took a slow step towards her, closing the distance between them. "Oh? So if we were in Mumbai," he challenged softly, his eyes sparkling with mischief, "would you share a room with me then?"
Ananya's breath hitched. Before she could stammer out a response, he leaned in, his voice a warm whisper right next to her ear. The scent of his soap, mixed with his natural scent, filled her senses.
"Of course you would," he murmured, his words sending shivers down her spine. "Because I'm your superhero. And you kissed me, remember?"
Ananya's eyes widened, her entire body stiffening. Her neck and ears turned a fiery shade of red. "Don't you dare!" she hissed, trying to push him away. "Don't you dare say that to anyone! Especially not to my family!"
"Okay," he said, a playful glint in his eyes that danced mischievously. "I will not tell your family that you kissed me." He paused, letting the words hang in the air like a secret, watching her every reaction. "But... what will you give me in return, Ananya?"
Ananya stared at him, her mind a frantic scramble. Give him? What does he want? A promise? A favor?.Her eyes darted around the room in a panic, then, in a moment of pure, clumsy innocence, landed on her open bag. Practicality, even in her complete fluster, kicked in. She quickly rummaged inside, pulled out a crumpled 100 rupee note and five shiny 5-rupee coins, and give them towards him like an offering.
"Here! Take this!" she blurted out, "Take this and don't tell anyone, okay? This is all I have right now!"
Vikram looked at the money in her outstretched hand, then back at her wide, pleading eyes. A deep, rumbling chuckle, warm and genuine, escaped his chest. He reached out, not for the money, but for her hand, gently, carefully, pushing it back towards her.
"Money?" he murmured, shaking his head slowly, a tender smile replacing his earlier smirk. "Ananya, do you even know who I am? I'm a police officer." He let the words sink in, a mischievous eyebrow raised. "And you're offering me money to keep a secret? That's a crime, you know."
Ananya's eyes widened even further, her mouth falling open slightly. "What?! No! I-I didn't mean it like that!" Her face burned even hotter, now with a fresh wave of mortification.
"Is that what you think I want?" he continued, ignoring her panicked protests.
Before she could stammer out another reply, he took a slow, deliberate step towards her. Then another. Ananya, surprised by his calm advance, instinctively took a step back, her heart already fluttering wildly, until her back touched the cool, solid wall. Her heart instantly began to pound a frantic rhythm against her ribs, echoing loudly in her ears.
He kept coming, closing the distance between them until his body was just inches from hers. She could feel the subtle warmth radiating from him, smell the clean scent of his, mixed with a hint of something uniquely masculine that made her senses swim. Panic, mixed with a strange, thrilling sensation she couldn't identify, coiled in her stomach.
She instinctively raised a hand, placing it flat against his broad chest, just above his heart, trying to stop him, to create some space. Her palm felt the steady, powerful thrum of his heartbeat, now racing almost as fast as her own.
Vikram just stared down at her hand on his heart. He could feel the soft pressure of her palm, the warmth seeping through his uniform shirt, sending an unexpected jolt through him. He looked from her small hand, so delicate against his chest, to her wide, innocent eyes, now shimmering with confusion and a hint of fear. A slow, tender smile, completely devoid of teasing, spread across his face.
"Ananya," he whispered back, his voice surprisingly gentle, leaning down just a little closer. Her breath hitched in her throat as their eyes locked, unable to look away. "What do you think I want?" His gaze dropped, lingering on her lips for a fleeting, electrifying second, before rising back to her eyes, leaving her utterly breathless.
Ananya stared at him She couldn't stand being so close to him, the heat radiating from him, the memory of their morning encounter still vivid. She shoved past him, grabbed her remaining bag, and practically bolted for the door.
Just as she reached the door, Vikram's voice, laced with playful promise, stopped her. "And don't worry, Ananya. I don't keep other people's things for long. I will surely give your kiss back."
Ananya spun around, a fake glare plastered on her face, but she couldn't hide the tiny, involuntary smile that threatened to break through. Vikram winked at her, a full, charming, playful wink that made her heart skip a beat. She turned around abruptly and hurried out of the room, her face still burning.
Ananya hurried to the guest room she was now assigned. Her cousin, Priya (Sudhakar's daughter), was already inside, having just finished freshening up. Ananya quickly showered, still replaying the awkward, yet thrilling, conversation in her head. Her older brother, Arun, who own a construction Business in Hyderabad, would have a field day if he ever found out about this. She quickly dismissed the thought. No one must ever know.
Meanwhile, Vikram, now in his perfectly ironed khaki uniform, descended the stairs. He looked formidable, every inch the disciplined police officer. He was about to head out for his official duties when Raghava's voice stopped him.
"Vikram! Where are you going? It's time for breakfast"
Vikram turned, slightly surprised. "Sir, I... I was just going to eat something outside, then head to the station." He still found it difficult to call this powerful man 'Thathayya'.
Raghava frowned. "Outside? Nonsense! When you are in this house, you eat with the family. And don't call me 'Sir'. You call me Thathayya. Understood?"
The word 'Thathayya' felt strange and warm on Vikram's tongue, a taste of family he hadn't known in decades. A small, almost imperceptible smile touched his lips. "Understood, Thathayya garu."
He took his seat at the long, traditional dining table. Suryakantham and Sitadevi were already bustling around, serving delicious, aromatic food onto leaf plates. The entire family was present, their chatter filling the room with a lively warmth.
Just then, Ananya walked in, fresh from her shower, her hair still slightly damp. She smelled of jasmine. She took the empty seat directly in front of Vikram without looking up, her eyes fixed on her plate.
Raghava, noticing her, smiled proudly. "Ah, Ananya! Come, come! Vikram," he addressed the DCP, "this is Ananya, my granddaughter." He turned back to Ananya. "Anu, this is Vikram, the new DCP. He's staying with us for a few days."
Ananya slowly lifted her eyes. Her gaze met Vikram's across the table. His expression was carefully neutral, but a ghost of a smirk played on his lips. Ananya felt her heart do a tiny flip. She offered him a small, polite smile. He just gave a slight nod in acknowledgment.
Raghava, beaming, wasn't finished. "And Vikram, let me tell you about Ananya. She is a topper in her college, final year! So intelligent, our Anu. And she's very... traditional, mind you. Very orthodox, always respects elders, a true gem of our family!" He piled on the praises, completely unaware of the chaos that had transpired in Ananya's room just an hour ago.
Ananya's eyes widened, and she shot a quick, horrified glance at Vikram, who was now struggling to suppress a laugh, his shoulders shaking slightly. She could practically see him thinking about her "orthodox" behavior.
"Thathayya!" Ananya blurted out, her face flushing crimson. "Let's eat! The food is getting cold!" She couldn't take it anymore. She quickly grabbed a serving spoon, effectively shutting down her grandfather's proud boasts, and glared at Vikram, who was still trying to compose himself.
